Wildfur's ears pricked up. He was happy. He made no more sign of his happiness other than "I'd love you to go.", however, which he said beaming at Rainfur, for all the world to see.
Mosspaw nodded to Rainfur. "I agree. Has anyone seen how much we actually have?"
Wildfur jumped to his paws, left, and returned in a few seconds saying, "Probably enough to feed the Clan till tomorrow at sunrise. Not much, but we should be able to get a few hunting patrols in there..." he broke off, lost in thought. Mosspaw knew him well enough to tell that he was thinking about the rogues. He was probably, also, almost looking forward to his first battle, strange as that may sound, merely for the thrill and the honor of defending his Clan.

Wildfur and Mosspaw followed in quick sucession, Mosspaw trying to keep pace as her smallish legs worked frantically. Eventualy she found the right pace and got used to the new rythym.
"Where do you think we'll patrol, Wildfur?" she asked.
"Probably around the EmberClan border, since Goldenstar is saying they've come into a few other Clan's camps, and then I think we'll follow the stream down til we reach the IceClan border. And I, for one, will be making lots of marks, because EmberClan has been edgy with us about our borders for a while. If that's OK with both of you, of course." he added, remembering that he was not leader. "Sorry, got carried away..." he tried to explain.

Mosspaw whispered back. "I won't. I'll keep him in line, don't worry!...though you're in a better position to alter him from his power-grubbing ways, Miss Mate-of-Wildfur..." she teased.
Wildfur himself was trotting casually out in front, observing everything, bright-eyed and with a silly, happy smile on his dappled face.

"OK, fine then Mrs. Wildfur...you have a huge bug sitting on your ear. I think the beetle loves you, look out Wildfur!" she grinned.
At the mention of his name, Wildfur turned around, and caused a fit of giggles in Mosspaw, but he was too far away to hear the joke so he just looked confused, which of course sent Mosspaw into fresh waves of chuckles.
Through tears of holding-breath-laughing, she managed to gasp secretly to Rainfur, "I don't know why I'm laughing! I just find it soooo funny!"

Mosspaw looked skeptical. "How did a worm get on my back?"
But sure enough, when she turned around, there was a fat, slimy earthworm coiling in the thick fur of her ruff.
Narrowing her eyes jokingly, she said, "YOU wouldn't happen to know anything about that there earthworm so far from home, would you?"

Mosspaw thought about going back to get the worm to torment her friend even more, and was just about to go get it when Wildfir called out from several fox-lengths ahead, "This is the EmberClan border!"
